Iranian President Receives Warm Welcome in Lahore on First Official Visit to Pakistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other members of the delegation were also present.

LAHORE: (Asif Iqbal) President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, arrived in Pakistan on his maiden official visit and was warmly received at Lahore Airport by Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Nawaz Sharif greeted the Iranian President with a warm handshake, while Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended a cordial welcome on his arrival in Lahore. President Pezeshkian expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception. On the occasion, he was also presented with bouquets of flowers.

A brief formal meeting took place at the airport lounge between President Pezeshkian, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Following the reception, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif accompanied the distinguished guest to the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal. Upon arrival at the mausoleum, the Iranian President and his delegation were welcomed by senior provincial officials including Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Information Minister Uzma Zahid Bukhari, Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bhurt, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar, and others.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other members of the delegation were also present. Major roads in Lahore had been decorated with welcome banners in honor of the visiting dignitaries.

At the mausoleum, a smartly turned-out contingent of Punjab Rangers presented a guard of honor. President Pezeshkian paid his respects, laid a floral wreath, and offered tribute to the great poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif accompanied him throughout the ceremony. A prayer and recitation of Fatiha were led by Badshahi Mosque’s Imam, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The Iranian President also signed the visitors’ book at the mausoleum, recording his sentiments. A commemorative group photograph was taken with the Chief Minister and the Iranian delegation.

At the conclusion of the visit, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif bid farewell to President Pezeshkian and his delegation at Lahore Airport.
