ISLAMABAD – Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, expressed gratitude to Pakistan and its people during a phone call with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their support during Iran’s recent conflict with Israel.
According to a report by Iran’s state-run Press TV, General Mousavi, in a telephone conversation held on Sunday, praised Islamabad’s “courageous stance” during the 12-day Israeli aggression against Iran. He thanked the Pakistani nation for standing in solidarity with Iran during a period marked by heightened regional tensions.
General Mousavi specifically commended the Pakistani public for their brave position against Israel’s unprovoked military actions, calling it a commendable example of unity in the Muslim world.
It should be noted that on June 13, following the start of Israeli attacks on Iran, Pakistan strongly condemned the Israeli aggression. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with the foreign and defense ministers, reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for Iran, stating that Iran has every right to defend itself.
In a separate high-level contact on the same day, General Mousavi also held his first-ever direct phone call with Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman. This conversation marks a rare senior military dialogue amid escalating regional tensions and was reportedly initiated by General Mousavi.

The call between the Saudi and Iranian defense officials comes after General Mousavi’s recent appointment as Iran’s top military commander by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on June 13. His predecessor, Mohammad Bagheri, was killed the same day in an Israeli airstrike, signaling a major escalation in hostilities between Iran and Israel.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the two sides discussed bilateral defense cooperation, regional developments, and efforts to ensure stability and security in the Middle East.
