Iranian Ambassador Highlights Cultural Heritage & Gaza Concerns on International Museum Day

International Museum Day Message from Iranian Ambassador Highlights Cultural Heritage and Concerns Over Gaza

Islamabad: On May 18th, International Museum Day, His Excellency Reza Amiri Moghadam, the Honorable Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, delivered a poignant message celebrating global cultural heritage while raising concerns about the destruction of cultural sites in Gaza.

In his statement, Ambassador Moghadam emphasized the significance of museums as custodians of humanity’s shared heritage. “May 18th is International Museum Day. Let’s celebrate the museums that inspire us about our common heritage of humanity,” he said, underscoring the vital role these institutions play in preserving history and fostering mutual understanding among diverse cultures.

However, the Ambassador also expressed deep concern over the destruction of cultural sites in Gaza, attributing the damage to actions by the Zionist regime. He described this as an aspect of genocide, specifically cultural genocide, and highlighted the broader implications of such actions on global heritage and identity.

“The Zionist regime’s ruination of cultural sites and historical symbols in Gaza is another aspect of genocide, cultural genocide, and general degeneration,” stated Ambassador Moghadam, calling attention to the ongoing conflict’s impact on cultural heritage.

International Museum Day, established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), aims to raise awareness about the importance of museums in the development of society. This year’s theme resonates deeply with Ambassador Moghadam’s message, as it focuses on the role of museums in cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures, and development of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among peoples.

The Ambassador’s remarks serve as a reminder of the fragile nature of cultural heritage in conflict zones and the need for international efforts to protect and preserve these invaluable assets for future generations.
