Iran Heads to Geneva for Second Nuclear Talks

Iran and US Prepare Second Round of Nuclear Negotiations

TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed Tehran on Sunday for Geneva, Switzerland, leading a diplomatic and technical delegation to conduct the second round of renewed nuclear talks with the United States, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

The indirect Iran–US nuclear negotiations are scheduled for Tuesday, with Oman acting as mediator and providing “good offices.” During his visit, Araghchi is also expected to meet his Swiss and Omani counterparts, as well as IAEA Director Rafael Grossi and other international officials, to hold diplomatic consultations.

Trump Open to Direct Talks With Iran

The renewed talks follow an earlier session in Muscat on February 6, months after previous negotiations broke down amid heightened tensions, including Israel’s bombing campaign against Iran last June that triggered a 12-day conflict. The US had also threatened military action and deployed an aircraft carrier group to the region after Tehran’s recent deadly crackdown on anti-government protests.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hamid Ghanbari emphasized that Tehran seeks a deal with the United States that provides mutual economic benefits, particularly in sectors like aviation, mining, and oil and gas. He stressed that for the agreement to be viable, the US must also gain from areas with strong and rapid economic returns.
