Iran Announces Monthly Allowance Amid Rising Inflation and Protests
The allowance will be provided to all citizens without discrimination so that the maximum number of people can benefit.
Tehran: In response to rising inflation and ongoing nationwide protests, the Iranian government has announced a monthly allowance to provide relief to the public.
According to media reports, the government stated that the initiative aims to ease the growing economic pressure on citizens and help them meet daily necessities.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said in a statement on state television that every Iranian citizen will receive a monthly allowance of 1 million tomans, equivalent to approximately seven US dollars. She added that the amount will be transferred to citizens’ bank accounts for four consecutive months. The allowance will be provided to all citizens without discrimination so that the maximum number of people can benefit.
Mohajerani said the government is fully aware of the hardships faced by the public and that providing immediate relief had become unavoidable under the current circumstances. She noted that the funds would help citizens purchase essential items and partially offset the impact of inflation.
It is worth noting that Iran is currently facing a severe economic crisis. Sanctions imposed by the United States and other Western countries over Iran’s nuclear program have badly affected the country’s economy. According to official figures, inflation reached 52 percent in December, leading to a significant rise in public discontent.

Protests against inflation, unemployment, and economic uncertainty entered their eighth consecutive day on Sunday. Reports say the demonstrations have spread to 40 cities across the country, with most mid-scale protests recorded in western regions.
Some violent incidents were also reported during the protests. Official sources claim that at least 12 people have been killed so far, including security personnel. Authorities say steps are being taken to control the situation, while the economic relief package is being described as a key measure to calm public anger.
