Internet Slowdowns Expected Nationwide on January 15

Pakistan May Face Internet Disruptions Due to Cable Repairs

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk)-  Internet users across Pakistan are likely to experience slow speeds and possible connectivity issues on January 15 due to scheduled maintenance on a major international submarine internet cable.

Internet service provider Nayatel informed its customers that repair work will begin around 2:00 pm and is expected to last for nearly eight hours. During this period, overall internet performance across the country may be affected.

In a notification sent to users, the company stated that the maintenance involves an international submarine cable and is unavoidable. Although specific details about the fault or cable location were not shared, users have been warned of potential slowdowns.

Submarine cables play a vital role in handling Pakistan’s international internet traffic. Any disruption can impact browsing, streaming services, online work, and digital communication nationwide.

Pakistan faced a similar situation earlier this month when widespread internet outages were reported on January 1, 2026. That disruption continued for more than two days due to a technical issue with an upstream provider.

While data traffic is being rerouted through alternative connections during the repair work, service providers caution that internet speeds may remain slow. Users have been advised to plan essential online activities accordingly to minimize inconvenience.
