Indian Woman Dies After Scam Call Falsely Accuses Daughter in Sex Crime
Scammer’s extortion attempt over false accusations results in a heart-wrenching death

A tragic incident occurred when a teacher, Malti Verma, suffered a fatal heart attack following an extortion call in India. The call, made on September 30, was from an individual posing as a police officer, falsely claiming that Verma’s daughter had been arrested in connection with a sex trafficking case.
The impersonator demanded ₹1 lakh to prevent the release of explicit videos allegedly involving her daughter.
In a panic, Verma contacted her son, Divyanshu, urgently requesting him to send the money to safeguard his sister.
Growing suspicious, Divyanshu investigated and discovered that the call originated from Pakistan, confirming it was a scam.
Despite his reassurances, Verma’s health took a sharp decline when she returned home, and she was later declared dead at a nearby hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that bystanders rushed to assist her during the incident. Her husband expressed that the shock and stress caused by the scam were the primary reasons for her sudden health crisis.
Local authorities are currently probing the call’s origin and have voiced concern over the increasing prevalence of such scams, stressing the importance of public awareness and stronger preventive measures.
