Indian court sentences Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment

Court decision brings strict punishment in UAPA case against Kashmiri leadership

Kashmiri leader – (Web Desk) – An Indian court in New Delhi on Tuesday gave life imprisonment to Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi. She is the head of Dukhtaran-e-Millat. The case was filed under the Unlawful Activities law, as reported by Indian media.

Her two close associates, Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen, were also punished. The court gave them 30 years in prison each.

The three women were found guilty on January 14. The charges included criminal conspiracy and actions against the state. The case also linked them to serious security matters.

Earlier this month, the National Investigation Agency asked the court for a strict sentence. It said Andrabi’s actions were serious and a strong message was needed.

This decision comes after the removal of Article 370. Andrabi is now the second Kashmiri leader to be convicted in such a case.

According to the NIA, the accused used their banned organization, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, to incite unrest and push for the secession of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir from India. The agency also told the court that Andrabi has a long history of alleged criminal activity, with 33 FIRs registered against her across Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
