Indian Captain Refuses to Accept Asia Cup Trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, Sparks Controversy

All eyes are now on how the ACC and ICC respond to these evolving controversies.

Dubai – In a move sparking fresh controversy, Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly stated that he would refuse to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, should India win the tournament. The statement, confirmed by Indian media outlets, has been communicated to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) by the Indian team management.

Mohsin Naqvi currently holds dual roles as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Chairman of the ACC, making him the official presenter of the trophy at the final ceremony.

This unexpected stance from the Indian captain has been widely criticized across cricketing circles, with many labeling it as an example of unsportsmanlike behavior and unnecessary politicization of the sport.

In a separate development, the Pakistan Cricket Board has once again written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) demanding the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft. PCB has reiterated its “principled stance” against Pycroft officiating further matches, citing concerns over alleged bias and mismanagement.

This ongoing disagreement has placed the upcoming Pakistan vs UAE match under uncertainty, with doubts emerging over its scheduled conduct.

Sources inside the PCB suggest that if the ICC refuses to replace Andy Pycroft, Pakistan may boycott the remaining matches of the Asia Cup. Officials allege that the ICC’s inquiry into the referee’s conduct was merely “procedural” and did not fully investigate the matter or contact all relevant parties.

The ongoing tensions threaten to overshadow the spirit of the tournament, with concerns rising over the integrity of the event and the sportsmanship displayed by participating teams.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes are now on how the ACC and ICC respond to these evolving controversies.
