India Threatens to Halt Water Supply to Bangladesh Following Suspension of Indus Water Treaty
Dubey Raises Security Concerns, Advocates Aggressive Water Policy Amid Rising Tensions
New Delhi: After halting Pakistan’s water supply, India has now threatened to cut off water to Bangladesh as well. According to a report by Indian media, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey has called for the suspension of the Ganga Water Agreement with Bangladesh in light of the recent tensions following the Pahalgam attack.
Dubey, in his statement, criticized the 1996 agreement between India and Bangladesh over the Ganga water, claiming that it was a mistake made during the Congress government’s tenure. He questioned the practice of providing water to neighboring countries, saying, “How long will we continue to provide water to snakes? It’s time to end this.”
The report also highlighted that Dubey expressed concerns about security at India’s borders with both Pakistan and Bangladesh. His statements come amid escalating tensions in the region, with India taking a more aggressive stance on water-related issues with its neighbors.
