India and Bangladesh Impose Trade Restrictions Amid Rising Tensions

Bangladesh Bans Cotton Yarn Imports from India via Road

ISLAMABAD: Tensions between India and Bangladesh have escalated, leading both countries to impose trade restrictions on each other. In a significant move, India has suspended transit trade facilities for Bangladesh, a key arrangement that allowed Bangladesh to export goods to other countries via Indian ports and airports.

According to international news agencies, India has justified the decision by citing congestion at its ports and airports as the reason for halting the transit facility.

In response, Bangladesh has imposed a ban on the import of cotton yarn from India via road transport. Bangladeshi authorities stated that the restriction aims to protect local industries from the impact of cheap imported yarn.

The trade restrictions mark a notable downturn in economic cooperation between the two neighbors, raising concerns over their broader diplomatic relations.
