Increase in Heart Patients Observed in Karachi with Onset of Winter
Winter Raises Heart Risks: Blood Pressure, Respiratory Illnesses Threaten Patients
KARACHI: With the onset of winter in Karachi, hospitals are witnessing a rise in the number of heart disease patients.
Dr. Javed Akbar Sial, Director of the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD), told a priavte news channel in a telephonic interview that both public and private hospitals have seen an increased load of cardiac patients since the start of the cold season.
According to Dr. Sial, respiratory infections during winter pose significant risks for heart patients. The number of patients at NICVD and SICVD has reportedly increased by 30 to 40 percent.

Why Winter is Risky for Heart Patients
Dr. Sial explained that cold weather causes blood vessels to constrict, which increases pressure on the heart. Respiratory illnesses also have a severe impact on cardiac health. Cases of heart attacks and angina typically rise during winter, and heart patients are more vulnerable to infections in this season.
Precautionary Measures
He advised heart patients to protect themselves from the cold, carefully monitor blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol levels, and seek immediate medical attention in case of cold, cough, fever, or chest pain.
