Inaam Zafar Urges Long-Term Energy Policy Reforms

Chaudhry Inaam Zafar Demands Energy Policy And Economic Reforms

RAWALPINDI (Our Correspondent) – Political and social figure Chaudhry Inaam Zafar has called for a comprehensive long-term energy policy and structural economic reforms in Pakistan following the recent increase in petroleum prices and the address by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Reacting to the situation, Zafar said that while the rise in global oil prices is an international reality, its effects are likely to be felt more severely in Pakistan compared to many other countries. He stressed that the ongoing global energy crisis highlights the urgent need for Pakistan to shift towards a sustainable long-term energy strategy, stronger economic reforms, and the development of alternative energy resources to shield the public and the economy from future market fluctuations.

Security alert in Islamabad, Rawalpindi amid Threat Warnings

Chaudhry Inaam Zafar pointed out that petrol prices in Pakistan have reportedly surged by around Rs55 per litre, reaching nearly Rs321 per litre. He noted that the increase is significantly higher than the hikes observed in neighboring countries such as India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

He warned that the sharp rise in fuel prices could lead to higher transportation costs and a surge in the prices of daily necessities, potentially triggering another wave of inflation across the country.

While acknowledging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s call for austerity and fuel conservation, Zafar argued that administrative measures alone will not be enough to address the crisis. He urged the government to reduce heavy petroleum taxes, promote renewable and alternative energy sources, and introduce strong economic reforms alongside a long-term national energy policy to protect citizens from future volatility in global markets.
