Imran Khan Safe and in Good Health, Confirms Sister After Meeting at Adiala Jail

Uzma said Khan was physically fine but remained in solitary confinement and was facing what she described as mental pressure.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan is “completely sound and safe,” his sister Uzma Khan confirmed on Tuesday after meeting him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, easing days of speculation about the former prime minister’s health and wellbeing.

Uzma said Khan was physically fine but remained in solitary confinement and was facing what she described as mental pressure. She added that further details would be shared after consulting with her sisters, Aleema and Noreen.

The meeting came after weeks of repeated requests and mounting public pressure from PTI leadership, who had accused authorities of withholding visitation rights despite court orders. Tensions escalated last month when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied access for the eighth time, prompting PTI to threaten protests in Islamabad and outside Adiala Jail.

In response, administrations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi enforced Section 144, banning gatherings and placing the twin cities on alert. Officials defended the restrictions, citing jail security rules and alleging that previous meetings involved political discussions.

Earlier, Imran’s sister Aleema had claimed he was kept in solitary confinement for a month and criticized what she described as excessive policing and the authorities’ reluctance to allow even family-only visits. His sons had also expressed concern, suggesting authorities might be concealing information about his health or location.

Security around Adiala Jail has since been intensified, with more than 700 officers deployed, new checkpoints established, and strict vehicle inspections in place. Officials reiterated that Section 144 will be enforced strictly and any illegal gathering will face immediate action.

While Uzma’s confirmation of her brother’s wellbeing has offered temporary reassurance to PTI supporters, the party continues to demand consistent and unhindered family access to the detained former prime minister.
