Imran Khan masterminded May 9 riots, Usman Dar
PTI march in October was to bar COAS Asim Munier,
Lahore/Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s close aide Usman Dar Wednesday announced leaving the former ruling party, with May 9 — the day when PTI workers ransacked state installations after the ex-premier’s arrest — being the primary reason behind his decision.
“The motive behind May 9 events was to overthrow the army chief [General Asim Munir],” Dar said during an interview with a private television channel, as he came to the fore days after PTI claimed he had been “abducted”.
Usman Dar said, “Imran Khan presided over a meeting where the planning and implementation of the events of May 9 took place and accused Imran Khan of endorsing a narrative that is hostile to the state, and blames him directly for the PTI’s current situation.”
He said, “The purpose of May 9 events was to put pressure on the army chief to resign, adding that Imran Khan could be receiving instructions from someone inside the company.”
The former SAPM went on to say that the planning of targeting sensitive installations was done in the meeting chaired by Imran Khan, adding, “I now feel ‘unfit’ in PTI, so I announce my resignation from politics along with party. During the meeting, he said, instructions were passed on that sensitive installations would be attacked if the PTI chairman is arrested.
The PTI leader further revealed that party’s October 2022 long march was to stop the appointment of General Asim Munir as Army Chief. He said Murad Saeed, Hammad Azhar, Farrukh Habib and Azam Swati were from the anti-army group and wanted a clash.
Dar further added that this particular group enjoyed a very close association with Imran Khan. He emphasized that May 9 was merely a date, and the conspiracy against the military had been brewing for a considerable period. During the meeting chaired by Imran Khan, it was even suggested that they were prepared to resort to attacking state institutions to exert pressure if necessary.
He said that in order to prevent the arrest of Imran Khan, the workers were brainstormed, and people were brought from all over the country. After the attacks on the institutions, the foundation of PTI was shaken.
On Tuesday, the Sindh High Court ordered the police to lodge missing case of Usman Dar and and to the court on October 18.
Barrister Ali Tahir earlier told the bench that the high court had ordered the police in a previous hearing for filing the missing case.
The bench expressed its resentment and asked the police, why the case was not registered. “The applicant didn’t approach the police,” SHO told the court.
