Imran Khan Directs Junaid Akbar to Resign as PAC Chairman
PTI founder wants Akbar to prioritise party role.
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has directed Junaid Akbar to step down from his position as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), party sources confirmed on Monday.
The directive was reportedly delivered by Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, and conveyed in writing to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja. The instructions emphasize that Akbar should shift his focus toward his organizational responsibilities within the party, particularly as president of PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter.
Sources within the party suggest that senior PTI leader Omar Ayub is being considered as the likely replacement for the PAC chairmanship.
Reacting to the development, Akbar expressed his readiness to comply. “I will step down from the Public Accounts Committee chairmanship as soon as Imran Khan instructs me to,” he stated.

When approached for comment, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja declined, stating, “This is an internal party matter, and I do not wish to offer a public position at this time.”
The move signals an ongoing reshuffle within PTI ranks as the party seeks to reinforce its internal structure amid evolving political dynamics.
