Imran Khan arrested in GHQ attack case

ISLAMABAD: Founding member Pakistan Tehrik –e-Insaaf Imran Khan has been arrested in May 9 mayhem/GHQ attack case on Tuesday.

Judge Malik Ijaz Asif of anti terrorism court heard the case on Tuesday.

SHO R.A bazaar police station informed the court regarding the arrest of former PTI chief and pleaded for physical remand of Imran Khan.

The anti terrorism court rejected the demand of physical remand of Imran Khan.

Imran Khan appeared before the court through video link.

The Court asked the police to interrogate Imran Khan in jail.

Earlier talking to journalists the former premier said: “These people are conducting an inquiry against me regarding the May 9 incidents. May 9 is a conspiracy against us. Who stole the CCTV footage of my arrest from the Islamabad High Court, the attack on GHQ and Corps Commander’s House? Find the CCTV footage thieves, and all will be revealed.”

“It is a conspiracy to trap me; it’s a conspiracy against the PTI,” said the PTI founder.

Imran Khan was nominated as the prime accused in a challan submitted before an anti-terrorism court pertaining to 11 cases registered following the May 9 riots.

The challan, pertaining to incidents of vandalism at the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House), Askari Tower, Shadman Police Station and Sherpao Bridge during nationwide protests that broke out following Imran’s arrest on May 9 by the paramilitary Rangers, nominates the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief and other party leaders as prime accused.

Imran Khan set to virtually address public next week

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, revealed plans to deliver a virtual speech to his party’s supporters next week.

Khan while reportedly informally talking to reporters inside the courtroom said, “Next week, one of my speeches will land in social media. This is the era of artificial intelligence”

“I own the article published in the British publication [The Economist]. I did not send the article in writing. I had dictated it verbally, he said when he was questioned about the article published in a British publication attributed to him.

“They are conducting an inquiry against him in connection with May 9 violence, which is a conspiracy against us.”

Who had stolen the CCTV footage of his arrest from Islamabad High Court (IHC), he questioned, adding that search those people who stole the CCTV footage then everything would become clear.

He said that elections should be held at any cost. Elections are mandatory for the country’s economy and political stability, he said, adding that “it has been made difficult for us to contest the elections but despite that elections should be held on time.”
