Imam-ul-Haq Responds to Champions Trophy Exclusion: “The Journey is Not Over”
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s opening batter, Imam-ul-Haq, has addressed his exclusion from the national squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, sharing a message of resilience and faith on social media.
The left-handed batter expressed his surprise and disappointment over the omission, stating, “The result is not what was expected, but the journey is not over.” He emphasized that difficulties and obstacles only serve to make a person stronger, reaffirming his belief in Allah during challenging times. Imam’s exclusion from the 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy and the tri-nation series had raised eyebrows, given his regular presence in Pakistan’s ODI setup.
The selectors have instead opted for Fakhar Zaman and Usman Khan as opening options, alongside captain Mohammad Rizwan and star batter Babar Azam. Imam’s absence from the squad has sparked debates, with many speculating on the rationale behind the decision.
The squad announced for the ICC Champions Trophy includes Mohammad Rizwan (c), Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakeel, Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, Salman Ali Agha (vc), Usman Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The ICC Champions Trophy will begin on February 19, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in Karachi. The much-anticipated match between Pakistan and India is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
Key fixtures:
- February 19: Pakistan vs New Zealand (Karachi)

- February 23: Pakistan vs India (Dubai)
