IIFA Removes Apoorva Makhija from Promoter List Amid Controversy
ISLAMABAD: – The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) has officially removed social media influencer Apoorva Makhija from its list of promoters following a major controversy surrounding her participation in the comedy show India’s Got Latent.
Makhija, initially listed as one of the promoters for the IIFA 2025 event in Jaipur on March 8-9, came under fire after the show’s co-host, podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, made controversial remarks during an episode that also featured Makhija as a panellist. The backlash grew when influencers, including Makhija, were accused of making offensive comments on the show, sparking public outrage.
The controversy intensified when a legal complaint was filed in Kota, Rajasthan, accusing the influencers of promoting vulgar content and eroding traditional values. A group of lawyers claimed that such material negatively impacts society, particularly the youth. The complaint led to multiple cases being registered across India, including one by Assam Police under charges of obscenity and public morality.
IIFA officials confirmed that the decision to remove Makhija’s name from the list of promoters was a direct response to the widespread backlash and legal action against the influencers involved in India’s Got Latent.

Makhija gained popularity during the Covid pandemic with her viral Instagram skits and reels. However, her involvement in the heated exchange during the India’s Got Latent episode, combined with the ensuing controversy, has raised questions about the impact on her future collaborations and social media presence.
As IIFA 2025 approaches, it remains to be seen how the controversy will affect Makhija’s career and her role in future media projects.
