IHC Seeks Election Commission Response on Form Publication

Islamabad High Court Seeks Response from Election Commission on Request to Withhold Form 45 and Form 47 from Websites for 14 Days.

Islamabad, Pakistan – In a significant development concerning the upcoming elections, the Islamabad High Court has requested a response from the Election Commission regarding a petition to withhold Form 45 and Form 47 from websites for a period of 14 days after the elections.

According to private TV channels, Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court heard the petition filed by the United Muslim Council after the elections. Counsel for the United Muslim Council, Imaan Zainab Mazari, appeared in court and argued that according to the Election Act, Form 45 and Form 47, along with all relevant documents, should be uploaded on the website within 14 days of the elections.

She stated that not only forms but all relevant documents should be uploaded on the website, and although the general elections were held on February 8, the relevant documents have not yet been uploaded. The Election Commission uploaded Form 45 to some extent yesterday and then removed it.

The court directed Shoaib Shaheen, the counsel for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, to merge the petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with the petition of the United Muslim Council.

Shoaib Shaheen stated that he had requested the Election Commission and the Returning Officer to upload the form and obtain a certified copy, but no action has been taken on my request from both sides. The Election Commission is obligated to provide me with a certified copy.
