IHC Grants Bail to Asimullah in Blasphemy Case After Nearly Two Years in Custody
Given the delays in the investigation and lack of conclusive evidence, the court granted bail to Asimullah and ordered his release.
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has approved the bail petition of Asimullah, who had been held in custody for nearly two years in a blasphemy case. Justice Babar Sattar granted the bail and ordered his immediate release.
Asimullah’s lawyer, Asif Ali Tamboli, appeared before the court and argued that his client had been arrested on October 30, 2023, and that the investigation was still incomplete. Justice Babar Sattar questioned why the investigation had not been completed despite Asimullah’s prolonged detention.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) responded that Asimullah had been added to a WhatsApp group from which incriminating material was shared. The FIA traced the SIM card used and arrested Asimullah in 2023. However, when the court asked about the ownership of the SIM card, FIA admitted that they had been unable to identify the registered owner.
Given the delays in the investigation and lack of conclusive evidence, the court granted bail to Asimullah and ordered his release.
