IHC Acquits Four PTI Workers in May 9 Ramna Police Station Attack Case
Our legal team is doing an excellent job and will continue to fight for your rights, Aleema said.
ISLAMABAD: In a major legal development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday acquitted and ordered the release of four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers who had been convicted in the May 9 Ramna police station attack case, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
The acquittals came after a division bench comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Azam Khan heard appeals challenging the earlier verdict issued by an anti-terrorism court (ATC). The ATC had sentenced the four individuals for their alleged involvement in arson and violent rioting outside the Ramna police station following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.
The verdict is being seen as a significant relief for the PTI, which has consistently termed the trials of its workers as politically motivated and unjust.
During the court proceedings, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, was present and met with the acquitted workers and other party supporters. Showing solidarity, she stated, “Our workers are being subjected to injustice, but the party stands firmly by your side. Our legal team is doing an excellent job and will continue to fight for your rights.”

PTI has repeatedly argued that its members have been unfairly targeted and tried under stringent anti-terrorism laws. The acquittal is likely to embolden the party’s stance and may impact similar ongoing cases across the country.
The ruling also puts a spotlight on the legal and political challenges surrounding the events of May 9, which led to widespread arrests and prosecutions of PTI supporters nationwide.
