IG Islamabad issues notice to PTI social media workers: Here’s why
The authorities have highlighted that substantial evidence has been collected linking the suspects to a coordinated campaign.
Islamabad: In a significant development, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad has issued notices to several individuals suspected of being involved in a social media campaign aimed at inciting unrest in Pakistan. The individuals named in the notices include Sibghatullah Wirk, Muhammad Arshad, Atta-ur-Rahman, Azhar Mashwani, Komal Afridi, Uroosa Nadeem Shah, and M Ali Malik. These individuals have been summoned to appear before a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on December 13.
The JIT, formed under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA), is actively investigating the suspects’ alleged role in using social media platforms to sow discord and destabilize the country. The authorities have highlighted that substantial evidence has been collected linking the suspects to a coordinated campaign.
The investigation is ongoing, with the JIT focused on determining the motives behind the campaign and identifying any potential accomplices. Further actions, including possible arrests and legal charges, are anticipated as part of the investigation.

The IGP emphasized the importance of this investigation in maintaining peace and order and ensuring that those responsible for spreading harmful content face justice.
