ICT Police Seize Rs 2.38 Billion in Stolen Goods, Arrest Over 24,000 Criminals in 2024

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has reported a remarkable achievement in 2024, with a 75% reduction in serious crimes and the recovery of stolen goods worth over Rs 2.38 billion. In addition, the police made over 24,000 arrests and conducted extensive crackdowns on criminal activity across the federal capital.

This milestone was highlighted during the annual review meeting, led by Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Syed Ali Raza. The significant decline in crime rates and the impressive number of arrests reflect the effectiveness of the strategic measures taken by the Islamabad Police throughout the year.

Serious Crime Decline

According to official data, serious crimes in Islamabad decreased from 269 cases in 2023 to 200 in 2024, marking a 25% reduction. This drop is attributed to the proactive approach and strategic planning implemented by the Operations Division. DIG Syed Ali Raza praised the efforts of the police force, highlighting the role of targeted operations and enhanced intelligence systems in improving the city’s security.

Arrests and Recoveries

In 2024, Islamabad Police made a total of 24,387 arrests in connection with various criminal activities. This included dismantling 657 criminal gangs, with 1,531 individuals arrested. The police also successfully recovered stolen goods worth over Rs 2.38 billion, which included 429 cars, 763 motorcycles, and other valuable items.

Crackdown on Drugs

The police’s efforts to combat drug trafficking were also significant. Under the “Nasha Ab Nahi” campaign, the ICT Police registered 1,723 cases and apprehended 1,811 individuals involved in drug-related crimes, including 45 suspects targeting educational institutions. Seized contraband included 417 kg of hashish, 533 kg of heroin, 24 kg of crystal meth (ice), and 18,931 bottles of alcohol.

Specialized Units and New Initiatives

New initiatives such as the Margalla Patrol, Ababeel Squad, and City Watchers have been instrumental in enhancing security and crime prevention. These specialized units provide continuous surveillance and rapid response, helping ensure the safety of Islamabad’s residents.

Achievements and Challenges

The Islamabad Police also provided security for 1,628 law and order events throughout the year, demonstrating their dedication and resilience. Despite numerous challenges, the force remained committed to its mission. Tragically, four officers lost their lives in the line of duty, while 29 officers were honored with medals for their bravery and exemplary service.

DIG Syed Ali Raza expressed his gratitude to the police force, stating, “Protecting the lives and property of our citizens remains our foremost responsibility. Our teams are working relentlessly to make Islamabad a model of safety and security.”
