ICC Women’s World Cup: England Edge Past Bangladesh in Thrilling Encounter

Bangladesh, despite the loss, impressed with their fighting spirit and nearly pulled off an upset.

MUMBAI – In a nail-biting contest at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, England Women defeated Bangladesh Women by 4 wickets in the eighth match of the tournament, currently being held in India.

Chasing a target of 179 runs, England recovered from an early collapse and successfully reached the target in 46.1 overs with six wickets down. At one point, England were struggling at 78 for 5, but a match-winning innings from Heather Knight turned the game around.

Knight led the charge with a composed knock of 79 runs, anchoring the innings under pressure. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed 32 runs, while Alice Capsey chipped in with 20 runs.

On the bowling front, Fahima Khatun was the standout performer for Bangladesh, claiming 3 wickets, while Marufa Akter took 2 wickets, briefly putting England on the back foot.

Earlier in the day, England won the toss and chose to field first. Bangladesh posted 178 all out in 49.4 overs, with notable performances from Sobhana Mostary, who scored 60 runs, and Shamima Akhter, who added 30. A late surge from Rabeya Khan, who smashed 43 not out off 27 balls, gave Bangladesh a respectable total to defend.

England’s bowlers kept things tight, with Sophie Ecclestone picking up 3 wickets and Linsey Smith taking 2.

With this victory, England registered their second consecutive win in the tournament and now sit at the top of the points table. The performance highlights their title ambitions and ability to bounce back under pressure.
