ISLAMABAD: According to Indian media reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to reject the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) request to remove match referee Andy Pycroft from the ongoing Asia Cup.
The controversy arose after an incident where the two captains reportedly did not shake hands after a recent match. Indian media claims that Pycroft had little to no role in the incident and that the majority of ICC officials do not hold him responsible.
As a result, the ICC is unlikely to accept the PCB’s demand for Pycroft’s removal. He is expected to continue his duties as match referee for the rest of the Asia Cup.
However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is reportedly exploring a middle ground to defuse tensions. One proposed compromise is to exclude Pycroft from officiating Pakistan’s remaining matches. In his place, Richie Richardson may be appointed as match referee for those games.
The PCB had earlier warned the ICC that Pakistan might withdraw from the remainder of the tournament if Pycroft was not removed. The situation remains tense, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
