Hurriyat Conference Calls for Strike in Occupied Kashmir on August 5
It is worth noting that on August 5, 2019, the Indian government unilaterally abrogated Article 370
Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called for a complete shutdown across Indian-occupied Kashmir on August 5, marking the anniversary of India’s controversial move to revoke the region’s special constitutional status in 2019.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, the Hurriyat leadership has urged the people of Kashmir to observe a complete strike as a clear message to the world that they reject India’s unilateral and illegal actions taken on August 5, 2019.
The Hurriyat Conference stated that August 5 remains one of the darkest days in Kashmir’s history, when India unilaterally stripped the region of its autonomous status and distinct identity under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.
Pro-freedom groups and the Hurriyat Conference have also posted banners and posters in Srinagar and other parts of the occupied valley. The posters call for the reversal of the August 2019 measures, the release of political prisoners, and a resolution to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
It is worth noting that on August 5, 2019, the Indian government unilaterally abrogated Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, sparking widespread condemnation and unrest in the region.
