Haji Gulbar Khan promises swift action to address Hunza’s power crisis

HUNZA (Staff Reporter): Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan has pledged to tackle the power crisis plaguing Hunza with a combination of short-term and long-term measures. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a one-megawatt solar power project in Hunza, Khan outlined a series of initiatives aimed at providing a stable and reliable power supply to the region.

In the immediate term, the government will complete a two-and-a-half-megawatt solar power project within the next year, significantly boosting Hunza’s power generation capacity. Additionally, efforts are underway to expedite the construction of the Attaabad 54 MW Hydropower Project and upgrade the Hasanabad Power Project.

To address the pressing issue of clean drinking water, the Secretary Construction has been tasked with tendering a water project within the next month. Furthermore, the tender for the Nasirabad to Khanabad road project will be issued soon.

Recognizing the challenges faced by Hunza and Skardu during the harsh winter months, Khan is considering providing electricity through thermal power in January and February.

On the matter of the Dongdas boundary issue, the Chief Secretary has been instructed to prepare a report based on the Boundary Commission’s findings. This report will be reviewed in the coming weeks.

Khan commended the Industrial Promotion Service (IPS) for successfully completing the one-megawatt solar power project in Hunza, emphasizing the government’s commitment to meritocracy. He reiterated that resolving Hunza’s issues remains a top priority, and all projects will be expedited accordingly.

During a program organized by the people of Hunza in Khan’s honor at Al-Tat Fort, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for their support and reaffirmed his dedication to addressing their concerns. He assured them that all projects will be completed on an urgent basis.
