Record-Breaking Bid: How Trophy Hunting Funds Conservation in Pakistan
Gilgit Baltistan – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – The legal hunt for Pakistan’s national animal, the markhor, has just reached a new world record. A single hunting permit was sold for an incredible $370,000.
This record-breaking price was set at a recent auction for the 2025–26 trophy hunting season in Gilgit-Baltistan. The winning bid for the permit was over 100 million Pakistani rupees, making it the most expensive markhor hunt ever.
Last year, a similar permit in the Chitral region was sold for $271,000. This shows a growing international interest and value in these conservation-focused hunting programs.
