Hungary threatens to block EU loan to Ukraine over Druzhba pipeline shutdown, raising tensions with Kyiv and Slovakia.
PM Hungarian vs Ukraine – (Web Desk) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned Friday that he could block the European Union’s $106 billion loan to Ukraine unless Kyiv allows Russian oil to flow again through a key pipeline on its soil.
The Druzhba pipeline, which carries Russian oil through Ukraine to Slovakia and Hungary, was shut down after damage from a Russian attack in January.
The closure has upset both Orban and Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, who are among Europe’s closest allies of Russia.
“As long as Ukraine keeps the Druzhba pipeline closed, Hungary will block the 90-billion-euro war loan. We won’t be pushed around!” Orban posted on Facebook.

Slovakia’s Economy Minister Denisa Sakova said on Friday that Ukraine had postponed the resumption of oil deliveries until February 24.
On Wednesday, Fico declared a state of emergency over supplies and threatened retaliatory measures against Ukraine if the pipeline was not reopened.

Fico and Orban have accused the Ukrainian government of political “blackmail” against Hungary, which opposes Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The European Parliament approved the loan on February 11 to help Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion.
