Home Department Orders State-of-the-Art Cameras for Punjab Jails

The initiative, which aims to enhance security to 100% coverage, will see the deployment of 4500 modern cameras equipped with advanced artificial intelligence technology.
LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has issued directives for the installation of cutting-edge surveillance cameras across all jails in the province. Under the comprehensive plan, every corner of the jails will be meticulously monitored, from prisoner barracks to security perimeters and essential facilities like kitchens and hospitals.
The decision was reached during a pivotal meeting of the Prison Reforms Committee chaired by Interior Secretary Punjab, Noor Ul Amin Mengal. The initiative, which aims to enhance security to 100% coverage, will see the deployment of 4500 modern cameras equipped with advanced artificial intelligence technology.

Speaking on the development, IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, highlighting that the installation of these cameras will transform the jails into high-security zones. Control rooms will be established within each jail, as well as at the IG’s office and the Home Department, ensuring real-time monitoring of all activities.
