Historic Verdict on Bhutto Reference: Justice Prevails after 44 Years, Says Bilawal

Islamabad: Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has hailed the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Bhutto presidential reference as a historic step towards justice, marking the correction of history after 44 years.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential reference, Bilawal Bhutto addressed the media outside the court premises, stating that today, a historic decision has been made. The court has acknowledged in the reference sent by Asif Zardari that former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did not receive a fair trial.
Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party expressed that the court’s decision is aimed at correcting past wrongs. He further stated that with this decision, Pakistan will move forward and progress.
He remarked that the decision to sentence Bhutto to death was a stain that led people to believe that justice would be hard to come by. However, now they await detailed deliberations and will consult with lawyers before commenting further.

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court, in its verdict on the Bhutto presidential reference, has stated that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did not receive a fair trial. The Supreme Court’s decision is unanimous, and the trial of Bhutto was not conducted based on fundamental rights.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa had remarked that the judiciary’s role is to provide justice. There are numerous cases in history where correct decisions were not made. Without correcting past mistakes, we cannot move in the right direction.
