Shamsabad Records Highest Rainfall at 52mm; Lahore’s Drainage Systems on Full Alert

Rawalpindi-Heavy Rain Sparks Flood Pre-Alert for Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Heavy rain over the past hour has led to a significant rise in water levels in Nullah Leh, prompting authorities to issue a pre-alert for flood-prone areas such as Katarian and Gowalmandi.
Currently, water levels in Nullah Leh have reached 15.5 feet at Katarian and 8.75 feet at Gowalmandi. Officials have indicated that alerts will be issued if water levels exceed 15.7 feet in Katarian and 14.1 feet in Gowalmandi.
The twin cities have recorded a total of 36.7mm of rain, with some areas experiencing even higher amounts. Specific rainfall measurements include 42mm in Golra, 27mm in Bokra, and 35mm at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) station. Shamsabad reported the highest rainfall at 52mm, while Kachehry received 20mm.
Heavy Rain Expected: Punjab CM Issues Flood Alert
Lahore has also experienced varying intensities of rain across different parts of the city. Areas such as Shadman, China Chowk, Lawrence Road, Jail Road, Shah Jamal, Qurtaba Chowk, Davies Road, Mall Road, Gulberg, Firdous Market, and Barkat Market have all reported rainfall.
In response, the Punjab Chief Minister has issued urgent directives to ensure the city’s drainage systems are functioning properly. The Managing Director of WASA Lahore has instructed all personnel and equipment at the Monsoon Emergency Camp to stay on high alert.
WASA has been tasked with keeping the screens at all disposal stations clean and ensuring that main highways and underpasses are clear of water. All officers and staff are required to be actively involved in managing the situation.
Authorities in both Rawalpindi/Islamabad and Lahore are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to take further measures if water levels continue to rise or if additional heavy rainfall occurs.
