Emergency Measures Across Karachi
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab declared a citywide rain emergency, cancelling all leave for essential services and directing the fire brigade, rescue teams, and municipal staff to remain active.
The East Zone Police, under DIG Dr Farrukh Ali, are also on high alert, ensuring drainage in low-lying areas, monitoring traffic flow, and keeping emergency helplines functional. Citizens have been asked to avoid unnecessary movement during bad weather and immediately contact 15 or the nearest police station in emergencies.
The Karachi Traffic Police also confirmed water accumulation inside the Nazimabad Underpass, forcing traffic diversions. However, they reassured citizens that traffic is being actively managed and urged drivers to call 1915 for assistance in the Central District.
Monsoon rains, while vital for replenishing water resources, continue to highlight Karachi’s urban flooding challenges, particularly in densely populated and poorly drained areas.
