Heavy Monsoon Rains Lash Punjab, KP and Balochistan; Two Dead, Emergency Alert Issued

Lahore (June 26, 2025) – Torrential monsoon rains drenched large parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Balochistan on Thursday, bringing relief from weeks of intense heat and humidity, but also triggering widespread disruption and posing serious safety risks. According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the downpours led to two deaths and 14 injuries in Punjab.
Rainfall was reported from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Khushab, and several other cities of Punjab. In KP, Karak and adjoining areas received significant showers, while central and eastern Balochistan also saw rainfall activity.
The Punjab government placed the Provincial Control Room and all District Emergency Operation Centers on high alert, while the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued warnings about potential urban flooding and landslides.
Deaths and Injuries Reported

A five-year-old girl, Dua Fatima, was killed after the roof of her house collapsed in Okara’s Riazabad area.

One person drowned in a rainwater drain in Sohawa, while two others were reported missing.

Power Outages in Lahore
The heavy downpour knocked out power in several areas of Lahore, as over 320 LESCO feeders tripped, leaving parts of the city without electricity for up to five hours.

Weather Forecast & Warning
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted that this current spell of monsoon rains will persist until July 1, with another major system expected to enter the country on July 15. The department also warned of 25% higher-than-usual rainfall this season, raising the threat of urban flooding in major cities.
