Health Services Academy’s proposed Agenda Sparks Criticism citing- No Relevance to Real-World Tobacco Tax Policies
Critics argue that presenting out-of-context information in the seminar undermines its credibility and distracts from the main topic.
Islamabad -The Health Services Academy (HSA) recently sent out invitation for its seminar titled “Post Budget Implementation: Tax on Tobacco Products,” scheduled for Jun 27, 2024 but later postponed. However, the agenda and concept for the event has come under fire for its unreal and seemingly spurious approach to a serious public health issue.
The concept, as outlined by HSA, promises to explore the fiscal implications of new tobacco tax regulations through topics that are Al-generated, imaginary, out of context, and intentionally lacking substance. This has raised concerns among public health experts, policymakers, and the general public about the seminar’s value and intent. Al-generated content, without proper human oversight, risks presenting information that is either superfluous or entirely unrelated to the critical issue of tobacco taxation.

Critics argue that presenting out-of-context information in the seminar undermines its credibility and distracts from the main topic. Perhaps the most significant criticism is the deliberate inclusion of content that lacks substance. At a time when comprehensive and substantive discussions are needed to address the complex issues surrounding tobacco taxation, the seminar’s approach appears to be a missed opportunity.
When reached for comments on the growing controversy, Malik Imran, Country Head, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, declined to make any statement.
