Harris Appeals to Republicans While Criticizing Trump’s Actions

During a combative interview, Harris responds to criticism and emphasizes her plans to bring fresh ideas to the presidency.

US-(Staff Reporter): In a tense television interview on Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris defended the Biden administration’s approach to illegal immigration, placing blame on Republicans for failing to pass a border security bill.

During her appearance on Fox News with host Bret Baier, Harris also addressed President Joe Biden’s mental fitness, her tenure as vice president, and her past support for gender-affirming surgery for transgender inmates. The exchange became heated, with both talking over each other, and Harris displaying visible frustration. Nonetheless, she aimed to convey her message to a conservative audience that may not often hear her perspective, especially with the Nov 5 election approaching.

Harris responded to questions about the administration’s decision to reverse some of Donald Trump’s restrictive border policies, as well as a mother’s testimony about the tragic loss of her daughter due to a crime committed by an undocumented immigrant. “I’m so sorry for her loss, but let’s talk about what is happening right now,” Harris stated. She criticized Trump for urging Republicans to reject a bipartisan immigration bill earlier this year, accusing him of preferring to “run on a problem instead of fixing a problem,” despite studies showing that immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than others.

When asked about her previous claim that there was “not a thing” she would change about the administration’s actions, Harris asserted, “Let me be very clear, my presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency.” She expressed her intention to incorporate new ideas from Republicans and business leaders to address housing shortages and promote small business growth.

Following the interview, the Trump campaign dismissed Harris’s performance as a “train wreck.” David Urban, a former Trump campaign aide, criticized her for avoiding accountability and blaming Trump instead. However, Democrats defended Harris, saying she successfully engaged with a hostile audience and conveyed her arguments clearly without any major blunders.

The interview was part of Harris’s strategy to appeal to Republican voters, particularly in swing states like Pennsylvania. She recently highlighted Republican support in Bucks County, emphasizing Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results and stating that he would likely repeat such actions if given the chance.

In her appeal, Harris invited all voters, regardless of their party affiliation, to join her campaign, noting her narrow lead over Trump in a recent poll. Meanwhile, Trump engaged with Latino voters through a town hall event on Univision.

Harris is also contemplating an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, which has a diverse audience, as she continues her outreach efforts to those disillusioned by Trump.
