Israeli Airstrikes Target Southern Lebanon in Response to Rocket Fire

GAZA: Hamas has responded angrily to accusations from the United States that the group “chose war” by refusing to release hostages. In a statement released on Saturday, Hamas called the claim a “distortion of the facts,” rejecting the suggestion made by US National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes.

The statement came in response to Hughes’ remarks that Hamas had opted for war rather than freeing the hostages, amidst ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Israeli Airstrikes Kill 130 Palestinians in Latest Gaza Offensive

In the past 48 hours, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed at least 130 Palestinians and injured 263 others, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The escalation comes as Israel continues its military operations aimed at pressuring Hamas to release Israeli hostages.

Since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, 2023, the overall death toll has risen to 49,747, with over 113,000 wounded in Gaza.

Israel Targets Southern Lebanon After Rocket Fire

Israeli warplanes have launched attacks on southern Lebanon in response to rockets fired from the region into northern Israel. According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Israeli artillery fire has targeted several areas, including the Nabatieh district and the town of Khiam. Israeli ground troops are also reported to be strafing areas of southern Lebanon.

Pakistan Urges UN Security Council for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Pakistan has called on the UN Security Council to push for an immediate and indefinite ceasefire in Gaza, citing the worsening humanitarian crisis. Ambassador Munir Akram, addressing the Council, emphasized that over 90% of Gaza’s population is facing severe food shortages due to Israel’s blockade. The situation has led to widespread suffering, with many newborns dying from lack of basic medical care. Pakistan has urged the international community to take urgent action to halt the ongoing Israeli military attacks.
