Hamas Holds Talks With Trump Led Board Over Key Issues
Hamas and Trump’s Peace Board Meet in Cairo to Protect Gaza Ceasefire
Trump & Hamas – Envoys from Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” met leaders of Hamas in Cairo over the weekend. The meeting aimed to protect the fragile Gaza Strip ceasefire. Tensions have been rising since the United States and Israel started air strikes on Iran, according to three sources who spoke to Reuters.
This was the first known meeting between Hamas and the Board of Peace since the Iran war began. The board is a new international group led by Trump. It was created to manage plans for Gaza after the war.
Soon after the talks, Israel said it would reopen the only pedestrian crossing between Gaza and Egypt. The crossing had been closed since the bombing campaign on Iran started. One source said the decision likely came after the meeting in Cairo.
Before the conflict with Iran, Trump’s Gaza plan was a key part of his Middle East policy. It was meant to guide the future of Gaza after the fighting ends.
The sources said the Hamas representatives warned the board that they could back away from its previous promises under the Gaza ceasefire if Israel maintains new restrictions on Gaza imposed during the Iran war.
Israel shut Gaza’s borders after the war’s launch on February 28, saying crossings could not be operated safely. It later resumed the limited flow of goods and aid but kept shut the sole crossing for pedestrians into Egypt, at Rafah on Gaza’s southern edge. On Sunday, it announced it would reopen the crossing later this week following a “security assessment”.
Iran Thanks Pakistan for Support Amid Middle East Tensions
Reuters has previously reported that talks on the disarmament of Hamas — meant to be a focus of the next phase of Trump’s plan — have been on hold since the start of the Iran war.
