Guterres Warns Iran Crisis Endangers Global Peace
UN Russia China Condemn Strikes Warn Iran Crisis Escalation
NEW YORK: (Web Desk) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, joined by representatives of Russia and China, has strongly criticised the United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, warning that the crisis could seriously endanger global peace and security, reported on Sunday.
Speaking at an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, Guterres cautioned that the situation in Iran risks destabilising not only the Middle East but the wider international system. He reminded member states that the UN Charter obliges all countries to refrain from the use or threat of force against the sovereignty and political independence of any state.
“International law must be upheld at all times,” the UN chief said, stressing that there is no alternative to resolving disputes through peaceful means. He emphasised that diplomacy remains the only lasting solution and urged all parties to avoid steps that could further escalate tensions.

Russia’s representative to the Security Council described the US and Israeli strikes as a clear act of aggression, saying Iran had been effectively “stabbed in the back.” He warned that such actions violate international norms and could drag the region into a broader and more dangerous conflict.
China’s delegate echoed calls for restraint, urging all sides to avoid targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. He called for an immediate halt to hostilities and a swift return to negotiations, saying rising tensions benefit no one and threaten regional and global stability.
