Pakistani Workers Face Growing Risks in Iran Border Region

ISLAMABAD – At least eight Pakistani car mechanics were shot dead by gunmen in Iran’s volatile Sistan and Baluchestan province on Saturday. The attack took place at a workshop in the Mehrestan district, near the Afghanistan border, in the early hours of the morning.

According to diplomatic sources, Iranian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and legal procedures are underway to send the bodies of the victims back to Pakistan.

The victims have been identified as Delshad, the owner of the repair shop; his son Naeem; and three others named Jafar, Danesh, and Nasir, all from Punjab province.

The region, strategically located near the Iran-Pakistan border, has seen several incidents in recent years, including shootings, smuggling, and border clashes, creating an environment of insecurity for foreign workers.
