Govt Increases Petrol Price by Rs2.31, Diesel Also Goes Up

Ogra now shares daily fuel rates online, and the new prices will stay in force only for October 9.

Islamabad – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The Govt increases petrol price once again, adding Rs2.31 to every litre. Petrol will now cost Rs398.96 per litre across the country.

The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also gone up by Re0.78. It is now fixed at Rs395.72 per litre.

The Petroleum Division issued a notification about the new rates. They will stay in force for October 9 only, because fuel prices are now reviewed every day.

Before this change, petrol was selling at Rs396.65 per litre. Diesel was priced at Rs394.94 per litre.

The government said the rise follows changes in international oil prices. Global markets have been shaky in recent months.

Ogra has also started to publish daily petroleum prices on its website. The step aims to bring more openness and to pass on global price changes to consumers faster.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the daily rates are based on a seven-day average of international market prices. He added that this method follows international practice.

The government moved to a daily review because oil rates keep jumping. Fresh fighting in the Middle East has added to the uncertainty.

The trouble began on February 28, when Israel and the United States attacked Iran. Tehran then closed the Strait of Hormuz, which was the main route for about one fifth of the world’s energy supplies before the war.

After that, Pakistan switched from fortnightly price reviews to weekly ones. A fragile truce in June brought some hope, but it later collapsed. Fears of a full-scale war have returned, and energy flows through the Strait are again under pressure.

An official paper seen by Geo News explains how the new system works. Ogra will issue daily ex-depot prices for petrol and diesel using the average of the last seven days of international rates.

The regulator can announce these prices without taking approval from the prime minister or the federal government. Prices notified on Friday will not change on Saturday and Sunday.

Ogra will also publish daily Platts reference prices, starting from July 1, 2026. The petroleum levy cannot go above the limit set by the federal cabinet. Any change in the levy will need the nod of the Finance Division.

The paper also lists new import rules for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Diesel imports will go only through Pakistan State Oil (PSO). Oil marketing companies can import petrol according to their market shares.

Companies that fail to meet their import or upliftment duties may face a penalty. They will not get fresh import permission for up to nine months.

Prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil will also be set every day. Officials have been told to put the new system into action right away.

For ordinary people, this means fuel rates can now change daily. It is wise to check the latest price on the Ogra website before filling up the tank.
