Government to build new village for families displaced by floods

The Gilgit-Baltistan government launches relief efforts, rehabilitation work, and plans a new village for flood-affected families.

Gilgit Baltistan – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Relief and rehabilitation operations are actively continuing in the flood-hit areas of Gilgit-Baltistan after the recent devastation.

According to government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq, relief camps have been established for the affected families in Tali Das. Authorities have restored clean water, electricity, and communication systems, while work on reopening the Ghizer Highway has already begun.

Firaq said the most sustainable solution for displaced residents of Tali Das is the creation of a substitute village, which will be built jointly by the provincial and federal governments.

The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has instructed all concerned departments to speed up rehabilitation and ensure timely support for affected communities.

He further added that the water level in the artificial lake at Tali Das is steadily decreasing. However, in Dain, nearly 3,000 residents remain cut off due to the damaged old bridge. Temporary boats are being used until permanent restoration is completed. Meanwhile, the clean water supply has been restored in Dain, electricity has been partially restored, and further work is in progress.

The spokesperson also shared that shepherds who risked their lives to rescue families during the floods have been sent to Islamabad under the Prime Minister’s directives. They will be honoured in a special ceremony at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat with certificates and shields, along with other volunteers.

Firaq emphasised that the provincial government remains fully committed and will not rest until every flood-affected family is completely rehabilitated.
