Government Rejects Claims of Forced Depopulation from Tirah Valley

Islamabad: (Web Desk) -The Federal Government has strongly rejected what it termed as “misleading and malicious” claims circulating on social media and some political platforms regarding the alleged depopulation of Tirah Valley on the orders of the Pakistan Army.

In an official clarification, the government stated that no directive has been issued by either the Federal Government or the Armed Forces for the depopulation or forced evacuation of Tirah. The claims were described as baseless disinformation aimed at creating public alarm, maligning security institutions, and serving vested political interests.

According to the statement, Law Enforcement Agencies are conducting routine, targeted, and intelligence-based operations strictly against terrorist elements in the area. These operations are being carried out with due care to avoid any disruption to peaceful civilian life, and there is no requirement for depopulation or enforced migration as part of these activities.

The government further noted that the local population of Tirah has increasingly expressed concern over the presence of Khwarij (terrorist elements) and has repeatedly voiced its desire for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Clarifying reports related to a recent notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government’s Relief, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Department, officials confirmed that funds amounting to approximately Rs 4 billion were approved on December 26, 2025, for anticipated temporary and voluntary movement of population from certain localities of Tirah (Bagh).

The notification pertains to advance preparedness and relief-related arrangements, including transportation, food support, cash assistance, and the establishment and management of transit and registration points. Importantly, the document states that the proposed voluntary movement reflects the views and preferences of the local population, as conveyed through a representative jirga convened at the district level. It also takes into account seasonal, logistical, and contextual considerations, following a non-camp-based modality.

The government emphasized that linking this voluntary and community-driven initiative to the Armed Forces is “false, fabricated, and highly regrettable.” Any such narrative, it said, is being deliberately pushed with mala fide intent to gain political mileage and to undermine the credibility of national security institutions.

Authorities urged the public and media to rely on verified information and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated claims that could harm public trust and national cohesion.
