PM Shehbaz Sharif Approves Increase in High-Octane Fuel Levy

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The government of Pakistan has decided to increase the levy on high-octane fuel, primarily used in luxury vehicles, from Rs 100 to Rs 300. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif via video link.

According to an official statement, the move is aimed at generating additional revenue while protecting the general public from financial burden. Authorities clarified that the prices of regular petrol, commonly used by lower and middle-income groups, will remain unchanged.

The government emphasized that this decision will not impact public transport fares or air travel costs, ensuring that essential travel expenses remain stable.

Officials added that the increase in the high-octane levy is expected to generate savings of around Rs 9 billion per month, which will be used to provide relief to the public.
