Government Can Ban Parties Under Article 17: Rana Sanaullah

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N leader and former federal minister Rana Sanaullah stated that the government has the authority to issue a declaration to ban any political party under Article 17 of the Constitution.

Speaking on a private TV program, Sanaullah explained that if the cabinet approves the declaration, it would then be presented to the Supreme Court within 15 days. Should the Supreme Court concur with the declaration, the party in question would be officially banned.

Sanaullah emphasized that the government has the same rights as any political party, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He asserted that the government should present its case and strive for success, noting that there is no constitutional harm in attempting to secure parliamentary seats.
