Google Tests Project Toscana Advanced Face Unlock
Google Developing Project Toscana to Fix Pixel Face Unlock
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Google is reportedly working on an advanced facial recognition system that could finally resolve long-standing face unlock issues on Pixel devices. The project, internally known as Project Toscana, is said to be undergoing real-world testing on Pixel smartphones and Chromebooks.
According to Android Authority, early trials are taking place in Mountain View, where prototype devices are being evaluated under different lighting conditions. Sources familiar with the testing claim the system performs on par with Face ID, including reliable functionality in low-light environments.
Google has previously experimented with multiple face unlock approaches. While recent Pixel models offer camera-based facial authentication with machine learning enhancements, performance in darker settings has remained inconsistent. Project Toscana appears to signal a renewed push toward a more secure, infrared-assisted solution.
Apple Google Agree App Store Fairness Changes
Industry observers believe the new technology may debut in future flagship models rather than the recently launched Pixel 10a, which received only incremental hardware updates. If successful, Project Toscana could represent Google’s strongest challenge yet to Apple’s biometric dominance.
