Unveiling GB’s future: First-ever 5-year plan to boost economy and lives. In a series of significant meetings chaired by the Chief Secretary and Chairman of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) DDWP (Development and Directing Working Party), the Gilgit-Baltistan government has taken substantial steps to expedite the region’s development projects and strengthen its socio-economic framework.

Mid-year Review Meeting:

The Chief Secretary chaired a mid-year review meeting to assess the progress of ongoing development projects. The primary objective was to identify and address challenges, ensuring a streamlined process for the timely delivery of project benefits to the public. The Chief Secretary emphasized the need to accelerate fund utilization while maintaining the highest standards of work quality. Special attention was given to projects related to the energy sector to address the severe energy crisis and its environmental repercussions.

GB Socio Economic Five-Year Plan 2024-29:

A draft of the first-ever Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan of GB was presented, focusing on aligning development resources with the region’s needs. The plan aims to establish partnerships with development organizations and promote collaboration with the private sector. The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of swift technical consultations to finalize the plan, which will then undergo a thorough review and endorsement by the legislature. The implementation of this plan is expected to significantly improve socio-economic conditions in Gilgit-Baltistan.

GB Investment Plan:

The meeting also discussed the draft GB Investment Plan, recognizing the pivotal role of the private sector in global development. Emphasis was placed on the importance of private sector involvement in GB’s economic growth, job creation, and income elevation. The formulation and endorsement of the investment plan are anticipated to open new avenues for investment, fostering economic development in Gilgit-Baltistan.
