Germany Welcomes Skilled Foreign Workers

Second stage of Skilled Worker Immigration Law comes into force.

Germany has taken a significant step towards welcoming skilled foreign workers into the country with the implementation of the second stage of the Skilled Worker Immigration Law. According to Schengenvisainfo, this new development, which came into effect on Friday, opens doors for skilled individuals to settle in Germany and pursue employment opportunities in their respective fields.

Nancy Faeser, the federal minister of the interior and homeland, emphasized the importance of skilled workers for the future prosperity of Germany. She stated, “We know that skilled workers are necessary for our future viability and the prosperity of our country.” Faeser highlighted the government’s commitment to reducing bureaucratic hurdles and making Germany more attractive for foreign skilled workers, particularly in sectors such as nursing where there is a high demand for staff.

This second stage of the Skilled Worker Immigration Law builds upon the first stage, which was launched in November 2023 and focused on the ‘EU Blue Card’ and recognized skilled workers. Under the new regulations, foreigners with two years of professional experience and a professional or university degree will find it easier to come to Germany for work.

Looking ahead, the third stage of the law is set to take effect on June 1, 2024, introducing the job search opportunity card. Faeser reiterated Germany’s commitment to attracting the workers its economy urgently needs, ensuring a smooth transition for skilled individuals looking to contribute to Germany’s workforce and economy.

This move underscores Germany’s proactive approach towards addressing labor shortages and promoting economic growth through the attraction of skilled talent from around the world.
