Generation Z: Confused or Catalyst for Change
It is the talk of the town that if Generation (Gen) Z is getting confused or catalytic for change. Defining the term generation, it is a specific group of people, divided by specialists, born in specific era/years, having same qualities. Gen Z refers to those people born between the years of 1997-2012.
Now the idea, are they confused or catalysts for change, implies that if they are lost in the chaos of modern/technological life, or are they the ones bringing meaningful changes in their lives. Talking about the confused attitude, it is because of trio of advancement in technology, the environment they have to deal with, and pressure of family norms and values imposed on them by their seniors.

In Pakistan, specifically, Gen Z are more confused than the rest of the world, because they have limited and restricted use of technology, and these restrictions are imposed by none other than the seniors at home, or educational institutes. They are also not free to think and act according to their own will, which is due to generational gap and a communication barrier between the generations. This hinders them to use their own qualities to the best and they are forced to do what is passed down to them. This leads to the up roaring rebellious behaviour of people of this generation, as a result they deny the rules and boundaries, set by their elders, to live an imposed life.
On the other side, across the world, we see Gen Z is overwhelmed by social media overload, economic instability, worsening geopolitical situation, and climate change. They are facing mental health concerns like shortening attention spans, depression, psychological isolation, and other psychological disorders, and struggling with identity issues as signs of generation crises.
Gen Z is not just facing challenges, they are actively trying to solve them. Instead of seeing uncertainty as a barrier, they treat it as an opportunity to innovate and create change. They are leading efforts in important social areas such as climate action, social justice, and mental health awareness. This generation is also known as “digital natives,” meaning they have grown up using mobile technology and digital tools. Because of this, they are especially skilled at creating new solutions and disrupting traditional ways of doing things.
It is important to mention that Gen Z challenge traditional corporate structure as well by rejecting the idea of sacrificing life for job. They encourage to be entrepreneurs and grow with respect of diversity. As a result, it seems obvious that Gen Z are born to make a wave of change, as well as catalysts for change because they are addressing new problems. They can use their tech and digital skill effectively and refuse to accept broken system to force change, creating new way of navigating complexities by pushing boundaries.
